Welcome!

Hello everyone! My name is Alessia Dickson and I’m the author of The Crystal Chronicles! Welcome to my first blog post! On here you’ll find posts about my writing, my writing advice, my experiences, and my thoughts on this crazy thing called life. I hope you enjoy reading my weekly posts! None of this would be possible without my readers, and I am so grateful for each and every one of you!

I guess this is the part where I tell you a bit about myself. I am sixteen years old, and yes, still in high school. My relationship with writing dates back to the moment I learned to read. I have always loved books, loved the way they felt in my hands and loved the way I could get lost in them. I have known forever that I wanted to be a writer, and when I say forever, I mean it most literally. From the very moment I could hold a pencil, I was writing dozens of short stories.

As I grew older I realized being a writer wasn’t something I wanted to do, it was something I had to do. So by the time I was eleven, I started writing my very first novel. I had the beginnings of an idea, but over the years it grew and grew, and it eventually turned into the fictional world of The Crystal Chronicles. I was a determined kid, and I kept writing, and then rewriting, as I myself, matured into a teenager. My manuscript was finished when I was fifteen and that was when I took the plunge into the publishing world. By sixteen, my dream was finally a reality and I could turn the pages of my own novel in my hands. My book as it appears in print today, took five years to complete. It was a long process, but I loved every single second I spent on the project. If you take away one thing from this post, I urge everyone no matter your age, to chase your dreams. Chase them, even if they take five years, or years and years after that. You can never fail with passion. If you have passion for something you can always make it work.

The Crystal Chronicles universe and all it’s characters, are very close to my heart. The characters seem more like my long time friends, and the universe seems like my second home, always waiting for me between the pages. My novel follows the story of Alyssa Brooks, a high school outcast who learns she has strange magical powers and belongs to a supernatural race called Elementals. Alyssa is thrust into this new world, and is sent to a school called Magnorium to learn more about magic. As Alyssa adjusts to this new life, she quickly learns the school isn’t all that it seems to be, and is hiding a dark secret. Alyssa and her three friends discover the mortal population is in danger and is at the mercy of a dangerous supernatural group called the Society. Suddenly it’s up to Alyssa and her friends, to set off on a quest to save the world from the clutches of the Society. Just one problem – Magnorium isn’t the only place hiding secrets. Alyssa soon unmasks a birthright she didn’t even know she had- making her the most dangerous Elemental in the supernatural world. The novel is a crazy roller coaster ride of secrets, deceit, magic and betrayal; a book that I hope is as much fun to read, as it was to write.
